does anyone remember watching “tales from the crypt” in the mid 80’s? there was one particularly episode that really stuck with me, where a black oil slick/blob was overtaking teenagers with feathered bangs in a nearby lake. kids would be out there, feeling fun, all beers and bikinis and speedos, and then BAM! black blob. slimed. screams. quelle horruer!

there’s no real tie-in. except that my new record is coming out may 5th. it’s called “actor.” if you loved that obscure “tales from the crypt” episode from 1987…then i hope you’ll enjoy this new record. many thanks, much love. XXXXXXXXXXXXX—ac

Yeah man…

You’re thinking of the episode called “The Raft”… it was in Creepshow 2. They had it coming though… those kids were all scoffing at the blob AND—smoking weed.

I did love that episode, and I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy your new record as much.

I still can’t go to tar pits because of that episode. But then again, how often does one go to tar pits?

Excited for your new album!

the one creepshow episode that always stuck with me is the ted danson vs leslie nielsen one. torture. crabs. zombies. intense!

Now I see… I knew there was a reason for me not to like lakes! Maybe now that I remember I can get through it! gosh, the blob going up between the wooden boards…

I can’t wait for may 5th!

i remember watching that show as a youth and thinking it was a show aimed at children, like are you afraid of the dark. then, i watched it later in life and realized how violent it was and how entirely inappropriate it was for me to watch at that age. still awesome, though.

super pumped for the new album!

i’m still pretty astounded that one dude was able to swim to the raft, avoid the blob, AND have a dry joint to smoke, impressive. can’t wait to see you at sxsw!

If you like gothic, then come to Aberdeen; Dracula’s castle is nearby (well, the one that fired Bram Stoker’s imagination; it’s called Slains). Anyway, that’s my feeble attempt to put Scotland in your mind for when you’re organising tour dates this side of the sea :)

Annie, I’m watching this in your honor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UydidePN30c

May seems far away.

Oh my God. It’s like you’ve read an entry from an index to my nightmares! And, just when I thought I had forgotten, I thank you for reminding me how much of a petunia I was as a child.

Dear Annie Clark,

Your music astounds me. I just wanted to give praise where praise is due (that is, wherever you are). I’ve written scores of poetry trying to capture the feeling of your music. It’s very inspiring to discover someone with so much talent…

Now this has absolutely nothing to do with the thread of this blog – but I wanted to cheer you on and couldn’t find a forum… so yeah, yay for you!

are you considering touring in south america? and, yes, how does one gets the information that he needs to pull this off with you? like, how do i make the professional contact here? btw great album o/

Hey, I remember that! I think Donnie C is right — it was one of the episodes in Creepshow 2 or something.

BTW, I’m listening to Actor now — for the first time! Extremely excited to see you when you visit us all heah’ in Georgia next month, Annie! :)

P.S. Was Manhattan one of the Woody Allen movies you watched while writing the material for Actor?

I just got the new album last night before I went to work. I’ve listened to it 3 different ways – through a laptop using somewhat limited headphones, through a desktop using crappy computer speakers, and now on my good stereo with subwoofer. One DEFINITELY needs to hear this on a good stereo, that bass sound you have on some of your songs gets no justice without the proper equipment. Quite lovely.

I also have to wonder – you say that you were thinking of movies when you wrote the album. But do I detect a hint of classical artsong/chanson/lieder influence here? A little bit of Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, etc, in some of these songs? Just wondering.

I only vaguely remember the episode itself (it was in the movie Creepshow 2) — but I do remember reading the Stephen King short story it came from (The Raft) out of the Skeleton Crew anthology. As I remember it, it was strong stuff.

no, but i do remember the Ghost Writer purple goo episode, it was some sort of gigantic bubble-gum invasion of some sort. Then there was The Boy and His Blob video game, on original Nintendo. Blobtastic!
